A History of Glo Contractors

George and Lorraine Dorsey started Glo Contractors, Inc. in 1978. Our intention was to offer our services to clients as a “one-at-a-time homebuilder”, keeping the client “first”.

As a fourth generation Carroll Countian, coming from a line of stone masons, construction is in our blood. We have been building in the Central Maryland area for 35 years. Attention to detail is foremost with home construction and to achieve that, communication is of utmost importance. Keeping the buyer informed and involved is a huge part of a successful building project. With remodeling in particular, it is paramount for us to remember that you are still living in your home, and we treat the project that way - when we leave at the end of the day, we leave your home as we would like our home to be.

Supporting the Community in Carroll County

Community involvement is important for a successful business. As a sponsor of girls and boys ball teams for many years, George Dorsey was asked to build the Pavilion at Mayeski Park in Winfield, Md. Following the pavilion project, George built the addition to the concession stand at Lion’s Club Park in Winfield as well as the meeting room addition to the pavilion at Mayeski Park, all as a volunteer. In 1991, George was honored as the Volunteer of the Year for Winfield Recreation Council.

Glo Contractors has participated for many years in the Carroll County 4-H Fair Livestock Auction, helping youth earn money for their college costs.

Beginning in 1994, George became involved with his son’s Boy Scout Troop, BSA Troop 733. He has been involved for 20 years as Troop Committee Chairman, Assistant Scoutmaster, Unit Commissioner, and as the Carroll District Commissioner. In 2001, George was awarded the “Carroll District Award of Merit” and in 2009 he received the “Silver beaver Award” from the Baltimore Area Council, BSA. “Character Counts” is what the BSA strives to instill in our youth, and George is proud to be a part of that.

George is also part of the Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, supplying his skills and knowledge to create homes for our needy.

Client Testimony...

"Dear Mr. Dorsey, Thank you for all your work. You made our vision a reality. Ralph is a great craftsman and a really good guy. Grant keeps at it, he may be good enough to take over the company someday. We are really happy with the quality and workmanship. Thanks so much for undertaking our house."
